I've been developing business database applications for 30+ years. I have done numerous database design, migration and integration projects for several companies. In 1994, I developed my first vertical market software application. It was a desktop database software product that filled a unique niche. We sold close to 5,000 units to clients all over the world. I closed down the company in 2008 to spend time working towards a new career.
I've been working with SQL Server for 15 years starting with SQL Server 7 in 1999. Since that time I have filled both SQL Server DBA and Developer roles. In January 2010, I worked for a company called Wood Group ESP in Oklahoma City for a six-month contract converting their Crystal Reports to SSRS reports. I also rewrote the existing queries and stored procedures to improve the performance of the new SSRS reports. I finished the project in three months and fortunately for me, I was offered a full-time job as a SQL Server DBA. I started off assisting the team leader with SQL Sever developing our HA/DR plan. I also performed various DBA tasks.
After about six months of working as a SQL Server DBA, I was assigned to assist the BI Consulting team who were building the company's first Data Warehouse. I was very fortunate because not only did I discover the technology I wanted to continue to work with in the future, I was also gaining knowledge and experience working alongside among the best BI developers out there. It was an honor to be able to work and learn from these consultants. They didn't just throw things together. They followed Kimble and SQL Server Best Practices for every part of the process. I quickly learned a lot about using SSIS in the ETL processes to perform nightly Data Mart data loads and incremental loads. I worked with a real expert when it came to designing the Analysis Services data models for the financial and supply chain Cubes. I decided to start studies to become a SQL Server BI Developer and learn as much as I could, while I could, from this group of excellent BI Consultants going through the entire process of building a Data Warehouse. I plan on gaining all the knowledge and experience I can to continue working with the SQL Server Business Intelligence Stack to be a part of a team to build a Data Warehouse or work with an existing Data Warehouse.
On my personal side
My wife Julie and I are blessed to have two grown "kids" and three awesome grandchildren. My son and his wife have our oldest granddaughter who will be a senior in High School when school starts back up in 2017! My daughter and her husband have our other two grandchildren, Ashlyn who is ten years old and Isaac who is eight years old. We also have our "furry kids"! We have two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels who are the sweetest dogs! Max is our tri-color boy, and Bailey is our black and tan girl. They love to go on walks with "daddy" in the evenings which gives me a nice break from the computer.
